ICNTS 2025 in Erding, Germany

Last week, a big part of the group, including Eliise, Henrik, Helen, Frank, Gordian, Yvonne, and Anneli, went to the International Conference on Non-Target Screening (ICNTS 25) in Erding, Germany. In these four intense days full of talks, poster sessions, and fruitful conversations it was also a pleasure to (re-)connect with people from the field and former group members.

Henrik presented a poster on generative modelling for structural annotation of LC/HRMS features in environmental non-target screening.

Eliise presented a poster on how to unravel lignin structures with mass spectrometry and rule-based modeling.

Helen showed how toxic units can be experimentally validated with MS2-based models in a presentation.

Frank introduced the latest progress on the p-leach project, where potential risk drivers in weathered plastics are identified.

Gordian showed how non-target screening and MS2Tox can be applied to assessing the removal and toxicity of tetracycline and its transformation products.

Yvonne introduced alternative approaches for prioritizing unidentified LC/HRMS features related to endocrine activity through molecular networking and conformal predictions

ICNTS2025 was also a great opportunity to catch up with collaborators and previous coworkers. Pilleriin Peets and Drew Szabo, who both were post-docs at SU, presented the work of their independent research. Pilleriin, now at University of Tartu, presented her work on compound class vectors for characterization of metabolites and Drew presented his work on bioaccumulation that he has been carrying out in the University of York. Furthermore, Jaanus Liigand (previous PhD student) and Mari Ojakivi (MSc student) were representing their start-up company Quantem Analytics. Last but not least, Lena Aisch, who also conducted her MSc degree at Stockholm University in the group, was presenting her research at Eawag, where she is now a PhD student.

We are also very happy to our long-time collaborator Juliane Hollender who received Lifetime Achievement Award 2025 in NTS. Congratulations! Well deserved!

A big thank you to all organizers from AFIN-TS to make this event happening!
