The new WISE initiative of the Knut and Alice Wallenberg foundation for “Material Science for Sustainability” launched an introductory meeting on the 28th-30th of August. The conference, situated at Vildmarkshotel in an area of outstanding natural beauty east of Norrköping, provided a broad range of presentations, from science, industry and management. David Karis, senior project manager at Stena Recycling, shared his industrial experience on the reality of recycling and the massive problems that come along with today’s product design.
Delightful dinners with singers from Uppsala offered a musical counterpoint.
But there was also ample time to mingle with all the participants.
During the poster session on Tuesday, each of the 90 projects were presented in a poster session. Also our research plan on “Toxicity guided inverse design of materials for environmental remediation” found its place.
