SETAC Europe 35th Annual Meeting Vienna

Last week, the 35th Annual Meeting of the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) took place in Vienna, where Harry had the opportunity to present his research through a platform presentation, and Lucas contributed with a poster! Let’s hear what they have to tell:

I was excited to present my work at SETAC last week!
My talk, “Prioritizing Candidate Structures in Non-Targeted LC/ESI/HRMS Analysis by Combining Machine Learning Predictions,” focused on improving how we identify unknown compounds in complex environmental samples. In the project, we addressed the need for matched applicability domains and uncertainty estimation across different machine learning models.
It was a privilege to be part of the session “Wide-Scope Target and Non-Target Screening Strategies for Enhanced Chemical Coverage in Environmental Monitoring and Chemical Exposome Assessment” alongside some brilliant researchers pushing the boundaries of exposome science.
Beyond the science, it was such a rewarding experience to reconnect with familiar faces and make new connections with colleagues equally passionate about expanding the scope of environmental monitoring. Grateful for the engaging discussions and the shared commitment to advancing our field. It was truly a memorable week!

I had a great time presenting my poster on uncertainty quantification in CCS prediction models using conformal predictive systems at SETAC. There was a lot of interest in how prediction confidence can be incorporated into non-target analysis and in the concept of uncertainty-based candidate reprioritization. Many thanks to everyone who stopped by — I appreciated the insightful questions and feedback! We were also lucky with the weather, which made exploring beautiful Vienna even more enjoyable. Overall, a fantastic experience.
